What is Required To Go Online Racing
Anyone can get online and start racing. There are some hardware components that you will need. A steering wheel with pedal is the main component. These usually come as a set and the gears are shifted with wheel paddles or a separate “H” pattern shifter. Controls can also be purchased separately for a custom setup. The steering wheel can be clamped to a desk and the pedals set under the desk. More advanced setups include a driver cockpit were the wheel and pedals are fastened to a rig and is completely adjustable.
iRacing is one of many racing simulator software products on the market. It is a paid service where you purchase a membership that gives you a basic set of cars and tracks. Additional cars and tracks can be purchased depending or what type of race car or series you wish to participate in. The tracks are digitally traced and very accurate right down to the scenery. Cars can be custom painted and labeled using programs like Photoshop.
At this time NASCAR and Indy Car are running online races while their seasons on hold. NASCAR has races televised although both series post racing on Youtube and their websites. Other race series and racing clubs also post races that can be joined.
