Buick was one of the first automobile pioneers to engineer and manufacture cars. The innovations from Buick have helped shape the industry right from the very beginning and still are in use today.

The Buick Motor Car Company was founded by David Buick. He came from a family that was involved with the manufacture of plumbing fixtures. At an early age Buick worked in the family business but always looked to innovate new produces.

Buick Motor Car Company – Starting the Legend

Buick started as an innovator and manufacturer of engines for the agricultural industry. He is credited for the innovation of the Overhead Valve Engine (OHV) design that is constantly used in many engines today. This new design produced more horsepower than the side valve engine that was widely used at the time.

The first car that Buick produced was built with the help of one of his employees. Production of Buick cars soon followed and the most popular car of it’s day was the Buick Model 10. Other models also entered production but Buick was plagued with money problems and needing financial help. Billy Durant took interest in the company and eventually took over. Durant was the driving force behind General Motors and Buick was one of the first cars to be under the GM banner.

With all the changes in model lines from many of the present auto manufacturers, Buick has been able to keep going. General Motors has stop producing Oldsmobile and Pontiac name plates and downsized its selection of products. The Buick name plate is now seen on only a few cars and some SUVs but is still going.

Through all the years Buick has always been known as a premium name plate and producer of elegant automobiles. Listed below are a few videos that cover the early history of Buick, and also a video that traces the timeline of Buick cars through the years from 1903 to 2018.
